What we do
petcalc is an independent project that makes free calculators for dog and cat owners. Each tool answers one question well, works on a phone, and explains where its numbers come from.
How we build our calculators
We start from published sources: peer-reviewed studies first, then veterinary guidelines such as those from AAHA and the AVMA, then breed clubs and veterinary hospitals. When sources disagree, we use the most transparent and best-supported method as the default and show the others for comparison. We show ranges where a single number would be misleading, and we label every result as an estimate.
Every formula, data source and editorial choice is listed on our methodology page.
Independence
We don't sell pet food, insurance or supplements, and no brand sponsors our tools. If we show ads in the future to keep the site free, advertisers will have no influence on our numbers or content.
Limits
Our calculators give estimates based on data from many animals. They can't account for your pet's individual health and they don't replace a veterinarian. See our disclaimer.
